Water Heater Installation and Repair

Thinking of getting a new water heater? If your heater is misbehaving or is more than 10 years old, it’s time to start thinking about replacing it.

Water heaters don’t always give you warning when they’re about to fail. Sometimes the first clue that something has gone wrong is that sad moment when you’re faced with an ice-cold shower.

If that happens to you, give the friendly people at Apollo a call. We’ll inspect your water heater and recommend the best approach for remedying the problem. In addition, if you notice any of the following, contact us for help.

3 Signs Your Water Heater Is Failing

Even if your morning showers are still hot, you may be able to tell when a heater is nearing the end of its life. Here are three signs you shouldn’t ignore:

  1. Rusty water: Rusty water from the hot-water spigot may be caused by a heater that’s rusting from the inside. A leak could be imminent.
  2. Strange noises: Rumbling and banging can be caused by sediment buildup. When this occurs, your heater may soon fail.
  3. Water on the floor: If you see water on the floor near a water heater, try to determine if the leak is coming from the appliance. Once a water-heater tank starts leaking, it generally can’t be repaired.

Save Money, Energy and Water With a High-Efficiency Tank

New water heaters are more efficient than old ones. New appliances can save up to 20 percent on energy use. Savings like that add up over a year and over the lifetime of a heater. Water heaters may be electric or gas-powered. Apollo plumbing has the expertise to install whichever type of water heater you prefer.

The following three types of water heaters are available:

  1. Conventional: New conventional water heaters usually have better insulation than old ones. With better insulation, the tank retains heat longer and uses less energy. New style glass liners resist the corrosion that can affect metal tanks. The most efficient tank water heaters have a thermal resistance rating of R-12 to R-25.
  2. Tankless: Tankless heaters provide hot water on demand. They don’t remain on standby, using energy to store hot water. Instead, when a person or appliance taps into a hot-water line, it turns on burners that heat the water as needed. This type of heater uses less energy than conventional water models. Because they don’t have a tank, these devices are compact and can be tucked into small spaces.
  3. Hybrid: Hybrid water heaters use energy-efficient, on-demand technology and also includes a small reservoir. Like tankless models, hybrids heaters are energy efficient. Because they also have a tank, they provide a continuous supply of hot water.
